A dangerous narrative regarding Greece is being reintroduced by Turkish analysts and officials, leaving no doubt about Ankara's true intentions. Turkish analyst Turan Oguz, in a recent text, launched a direct attack against Greece and Hellenism, attempting to "rewrite" history with a mocking and threatening tone. With blunt references, he speaks of the capture of Greek soldiers in Cyprus, the Battle of Manzikert, the Fall of Constantinople, and—most outrageously—"550 years of rule like a flock of sheep."
1. Specifically, according to Turan Oguz: "Do not lie. In Cyprus, there were about 2,000 Greek soldiers. We took many Greeks prisoner.
2. About 1,000 years ago, with the Victory at Manzikert, we took Anatolia from you.
3. About 550 years ago, we took Constantinople from you.
4. For about 550 years, we ruled you all like a flock of sheep.
What else should we do? A country cannot be humiliated more than this."
The message is clear: Turkey does not consider the past a closed chapter. It treats it as a tool for humiliation and political pressure, at a time when tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean remain high.

From insults... to the war industry
At the same time that public discourse in Turkey slides into extreme rhetoric, Ankara is attempting to spectacularly upgrade its role as an exporter of advanced weapons systems. At the World Defense Show 2026, the CEO of TUSAŞ, Mehmet Demiroğlu, revealed that negotiations with Saudi Arabia for the export of the 5th-generation KAAN fighter jet are now at the final and highest level.
The numbers being discussed are indicative of the scale of the project: 20, 50, or even 100 fighter aircraft, with scenarios including not just a simple purchase, but also Saudi Arabian participation in the development program itself. According to Mehmet Demiroğlu, the creation of a final assembly line in Saudi Arabia is even being considered as part of Riyadh's Vision 2030. Simultaneously, the co-production of the GÖKBEY helicopter is on the table, while TUSAŞ prepares to open a permanent office in the country to serve as a regional hub of influence. "3-5 aircraft are out of the question," he emphasized, showing that Turkey is thinking in terms of mass production and strategic penetration into the Middle East.
The dangerous message
The combination of extreme nationalist rhetoric, historical insults against Greece, and the simultaneous military upgrade of Turkey composes a scene that cannot be ignored. These are not merely statements or commercial agreements. This is a country that systematically invests in military power, cultivates revisionist syndromes, and broadcasts a clear message: Ankara wants the role of a regional superpower—and it does not hide whom it considers an opponent.
The question is whether Athens and Europe will continue to watch apathetically or if they will realize in time that behind the insults and the smiles at defense exhibitions, a much darker future is being built.
