Part of the force will reportedly include soldiers from the French Foreign Legion, who are already stationed in areas near the Ukrainian border in Poland and preparing for deployment to central Ukraine, according to Russia’s SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service).
In a statement released today, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) revealed that French President Emmanuel Macron is pushing for military intervention in Ukraine.
According to the SVR, Macron — having failed politically and desperate to pull his country out of a prolonged socio-economic crisis — is now seeking to leave his mark on history “as a general.”
“He resembles Napoleon”
“Macron’s path resembles that of Napoleon and Charles XII,” claims the SVR, arguing that the French president “dreams of military intervention in Ukraine.”
Preparing to send 2,000 troops
According to the same source, the French army is preparing to send up to 2,000 soldiers and officers to Ukraine to assist the Kyiv government.
“By his order, the General Staff of the French Armed Forces is preparing the deployment to Ukraine of a military detachment of up to 2,000 troops and officers in support of the Kyiv regime,”
the SVR said in its statement.
The French government reportedly plans to justify the deployment by claiming that the soldiers are merely “trainers” for Ukrainian forces.

The French foreign legion
Based on the same information, part of the contingent will consist of French Foreign Legion soldiers, already positioned in border areas of Poland and undergoing preparations for deployment to central Ukraine.
“The core of the unit will consist of assault troops from the French Foreign Legion, primarily from Latin American countries.
For now, legionnaires have been deployed in Poland’s border regions, undergoing intensive training, receiving weapons and equipment.
They are expected to be transferred to central Ukraine in the near future,” the SVR asserted.
The official explanation
According to the Russian intelligence service, Paris plans to claim — in case of leaks — that it is merely sending a small group of instructors to train Ukrainian conscripts.
“If information about the preparation of a military intervention leaks, Paris intends to state that it is only a small group of instructors arriving in Ukraine to train the mobilized Ukrainian soldiers,”
the statement noted.

Emergency hospitals being set up
The SVR also reported that France is rapidly expanding hospital capacity to accommodate potential wounded soldiers.
“In France, hundreds of additional hospital beds are being urgently created to receive the wounded.
French doctors are undergoing special training to operate in field conditions,” the Russian intelligence statement said.
Peskov (Russia): SVR data are “concerning”
The information released by the SVR about French troops entering Ukraine is “worrying,” according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
He noted that Russian troops frequently hear foreign languages on the front lines.
“Our soldiers constantly hear foreign languages, foreign voices on the radios along the line of contact. That means these foreigners are there. We are eliminating them,” Peskov said, commenting on the SVR’s report.
The official Russian position remains that any scenario involving the deployment of NATO member state troops to Ukraine is unacceptable and could lead to dramatic escalation.
Russia’s response
In response to the reports, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, speaking with evident irony, said that President Macron should send French soldiers to guard the country’s museums instead of preparing to deploy them to Ukraine.
“According to 2025 data, France has 1,123 museums. It would be better if Macron sent those soldiers — two per museum — to guard these cultural treasures,
so that we don’t have incidents like the Louvre again, given the dangerous situation in France regarding internal security and order,” Zakharova remarked.
Her comment followed the October 19, 2025, Louvre Museum theft, in which burglars stole nine jewels belonging to French queens and empresses, causing losses estimated at €88 million.
Medvedev’s warning
Beyond the sarcasm, Russia has repeatedly warned against any deployment of French or NATO troops in Ukraine.
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has strongly reacted to the possibility of NATO involvement, warning that any intervention could lead to direct confrontation with Russia.

Lavrov’s Message: “NATO expansion has never stopped”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared that NATO expansion has never ceased, despite Western assurances given to Soviet leaders during the Cold War.
Speaking at the International Conference on Eurasian Security in Minsk, Lavrov stated:
“NATO’s expansion hasn’t stopped for a single moment, despite the assurances made to Soviet leaders that it would not move even an inch eastward.
And this continues despite the commitments undertaken under the OSCE, which stipulated that no country’s security should be strengthened at the expense of another’s, nor should regional or global hegemony be pursued.”
Lavrov expressed Russia’s disappointment over NATO’s continued enlargement and voiced concern about the bloc’s strategic ambitions in both the region and the wider world.
“We are worried about NATO’s plans to increase activity in the Arctic, which — I am convinced — most reasonable people would like to see as a region of peace and cooperation,”
he added.
“They are preparing for a major war in Europe – We will not attack anyone”
According to Lavrov, Western countries are openly preparing for a major new war on the European continent.
Speaking at the same conference, he claimed: “They are not hiding their preparations west of the Russia–Belarus Union, leading toward a new major European war.”
However, he emphasized that Russia has no intention of attacking any NATO member state.
“We are ready to reinforce this position through future security guarantees for this part of Eurasia,” he said, adding that no meaningful dialogue appears possible with the current EU political elites.
“We hope Trump still wants a peaceful resolution in Ukraine”
Lavrov further stated that Russia hopes Donald Trump remains “sincerely focused on resolving the Ukrainian crisis” and will stay committed to the principles outlined at the Alaska summit, which were based on U.S. proposals.
