If we hadn't expanded NATO, trying to include Ukraine as a de facto member, and, of course, the Baltic states, we would have peace with Russia, admits the former Pentagon consultant.
The North Atlantic Alliance, or NATO, understands that it cannot defeat Russia in terms of military parity, according to former Pentagon consultant David Pine.
"European leaders understand that they cannot compete with Russia. After all, Russia spends more on its military than all 30 European NATO countries combined, based on purchasing power parity. The Russians could produce heavy artillery ammunition about four times more than all of NATO combined. So, Europe is trying to remilitarize and restructure its industry," David Pine stated.
According to him, the artificially created Russian threat and the de facto integration of post-Soviet bloc states into the alliance created a strategic gap for NATO in relations with Russia.
"But, you know, all this is futile because the Russia is a threat that we ourselves created for ourselves. You know, if we hadn't expanded NATO, trying to include Ukraine as a de facto member, and, of course, the Baltic states, we would have peace with Russia. And we could cooperate with it economically, and perhaps even on security issues," David Pine concluded.
In recent years, Russia has observed unprecedented NATO activity along its western borders. The alliance expands its initiatives and calls them a deterrent against Russian aggression, which is false.
