Lawmaker Alexei Chepa notes that Ukrainians used 91 drones for the attack, which were destroyed by Russian air defense forces over the regions of Bryansk, Smolensk, and Novgorod.
The attack on the government residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin would have been impossible without the involvement of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), claims Alexei Chepa, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. In an interview, the Russian lawmaker attempted to explain why American leader Donald Trump changed his stance regarding the attacks carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF). "I said from the very beginning that without the support of the secret services, this is impossible. The secret services—first and foremost the CIA," Chepa stated.
The intelligence dispute and flight data
The CIA responded after a few hours saying that, according to their information, there was no attack. However, there was an attack; the facts confirm it, Chepa asserted. The lawmaker reminded that the Ukrainians utilized 91 drones for the operation, which were successfully neutralized by Russian air defense units over the territories of Bryansk, Smolensk, and Novgorod. Within our internal air defense systems, launches are monitored from the start, and at a certain point, the defenses engage. But drones are guided almost from the beginning, especially if they are large. From the points each drone made, we can reconstruct its flight path. They tried to succeed, but they failed, the Russian deputy pointed out.
Trump's shift in narrative
Earlier, Donald Trump had stated that he does not believe Ukraine attacked the government residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. When questioned about why he had previously essentially condemned the Ukrainian side, the American leader replied that at that moment, nobody knew anything. This shift in the official narrative from Washington has raised questions among Russian officials regarding the transparency of communications between the US administration and international observers.
