The crash of a drone in Romania has escalated into yet another episode of a broader confrontation, which is now defining the future of European security and Russia's relations with the West.
The thermometer of escalation in relations between Russia and Europe is rising dangerously following the crash of an unmanned aerial vehicle in Romania.
The government of Romania rushed to attribute the responsibility to Russia, while statements from Berlin, Warsaw, and Brussels followed regarding the need to further strengthen the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.
However, Moscow rejects the accusations and points out that until today no undeniable evidence proving the origin of the UAV has been presented publicly.
The threat of Germany and the invocation of unity: a front is formed to confront Russia
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Johann Wadephul, stated that the European Union and NATO will answer with a united front against Russia, accusing Moscow of actions that, in his view, threaten European security.
At the same time, the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz linked the incident with the need for further military strengthening of NATO forces at the eastern borders of the Alliance.
For Moscow, however, this reaction constitutes one more example of exploiting every security incident as a pretext for a new military deployment of forces near the Russian borders.

Putin: We need an investigation, not political conclusions
The Russian President Vladimir Putin requested that the technical investigation of the event be completed first before political conclusions are drawn.
According to the Russian version, the drone may have been Ukrainian and lost its course due to electronic warfare systems.
Putin reminded that in the past Ukrainian UAVs have entered other European countries as well, arguing that an objective examination of the data is required and not immediate political exploitation of every incident.
The Russian Embassy in Bucharest characterized the event a provocation of Kyiv, arguing that the goal is to increase the involvement of NATO in the conflict.
It should be noted that the Romanian President Nicușor Dan rushed to claim that it is a Russian drone of the Geran-2 type.
It was a Russian drone of the Geran-2 type that took off from Russia. We know its trajectory, we know the route it followed over Ukraine, and we know the point from which it entered Romania. It was part of a swarm of 43 Russian drones, of which only one ended up on Romanian territory, he stated.

Medvedev: The calm sleep of Europe is over, you will see nightmares as panic hits Poland
Particular sensation was caused by the statements of the Vice Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev.
Medvedev argued that the European countries have ceased to be neutral observers and have been transformed into direct participants in the conflict through military, economic, and political support to Ukraine.
The calm sleep is over, he mentioned characteristically, warning that the deeper the European Union becomes involved in the conflict, the more it will be affected by its consequences.
These statements caused the reaction of the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, who called the states of NATO to confront the Russian rhetoric seriously.
Tusk called everyone in NATO to take seriously the words of the Vice Chairman of the Security Council of Russia regarding the end of the calm sleep for Europeans.
Yesterday, the former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that the calm sleep of the citizens of the EU is over. Everyone in NATO must finally begin to take these events and these words seriously, Tusk wrote on social networks.
It is recalled that yesterday, May 29, Medvedev wrote on Max that the citizens of the EU countries, as inhabitants of warring states, will not be able to sleep peacefully, especially in regions where production facilities of drones for the Kyiv regime are located.
???? Fmr Russian president Medvedev just issued a direct warning to Europe.

He told EU citizens that their governments have already entered a war with Russia and warned them not to be surprised by what comes next.

New message from Medvedev: he threatens Macron, Merz, von der Leyen, and Starmer saying this is only the beginning
New threats against Europe were launched by the Vice Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, who published a video created with the use of artificial intelligence, which is addressed to the leaders of the EU.
In the produced video, Medvedev noted that the President of France Emmanuel Macron, the Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and the Prime Minister of Britain Keir Starmer also bear responsibility for the terrorist attack in Starobelsk of the Luhansk People's Republic, which left behind 21 dead.
This is only the beginning, Medvedev stated while footage with launches of Russian missiles and the frightened faces of European politicians are shown.
Who said it was a Russian drone? The dialogue that caused a sensation
Particular interest was also caused by the dialogue of Vladimir Putin with a journalist in Kazakhstan regarding the incident of the drone that hit an apartment building in the city of Galați of Romania.
According to the exchange that was made public, the Russian President openly disputed the conclusions that attribute the responsibility for the event to Russia, insisting that a safe conclusion cannot be drawn without a technical expert assessment.
Putin: I do not know which drone you are talking about. Tell me what exactly the media report now. A drone hit an apartment building in Romania and they say it was Russian? Who said it was a Russian drone?
Journalist: Many people.
Putin: The many people means no one. Who exactly?
Journalist: Ursula von der Leyen.
Putin: Well, Ursula von der Leyen did not go to Romania. She did not examine the drone. No one can know from where a UAV originated before a forensic and technical analysis of the debris is carried out.
The intervention of Putin had a particular resonance in Russia, as it was presented as an answer to the accusations of the European Union and as a reminder that the technical investigation must precede political conclusions.

The complete collapse of Russian-German relations
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Dmitry Lyubinsky, stated that the relations between Moscow and Berlin are essentially in a state of a complete freeze.
According to him, an essential political dialogue no longer exists between the two countries, while prerequisites for a restoration of relations are not discerned in the immediate future.
This situation constitutes one of the most important geopolitical reversals of the post-Cold War period, as Germany had been for decades the basic channel of communication between Russia and the West.
The strategy of NATO and Russian concerns
From the Russian perspective, the incident in Romania is used as an additional argument for further militarization of Eastern Europe.
Countries such as Romania, Poland, and Lithuania are already requesting a strengthening of patrols, more anti-aircraft systems, and a greater military presence of NATO at the eastern borders.
Moscow considers that this policy does not contribute to the security of Europe, but increases the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and the Alliance.

A Europe closer than ever to war with Russia
The incident in Romania reveals something deeper than an isolated event with a drone.
It depicts how fragile the relations between Russia and NATO have become and how quickly every crisis is transformed into a new field of geopolitical conflict.
For Moscow, the continuous expansion of the military presence of NATO in the east and the growing support toward Kyiv confirm that the West has chosen the logic of confrontation instead of dialogue.
On the other side, the European governments argue that these movements are necessary for the security of the member states of the Alliance.
What is certain is that the crash of a drone in Romania developed into one more episode of a broader confrontation, which now defines the future of European security and the relations of Russia with the West.
