Revelation: Trump seeks more than just Venezuelan oil; the unknown message to China and Russia

Dramatic events in Venezuela trigger global concern – China and Russia react.

The recent dramatic events in Venezuela have shocked the entire world, yet almost everyone is ignoring the larger picture. A high-stakes geopolitical chess game is unfolding before our eyes. The Trump administration appears determined to push China and Russia out of the Western Hemisphere, and the establishment of a new, pro-Western government in Venezuela would mark a significant step in that direction. Few realize that Venezuela possesses larger proven oil reserves than any other country on the planet, including Saudi Arabia. Trump and his team are betting that the Chinese and Russians will back down and allow them to control the country. But what if they don't? Both nations have spent decades developing deep ties with Venezuela and are currently incensed.

The reactions

Over the last two decades, Russia has sold approximately $20 billion in military equipment to Venezuela and signed a major strategic agreement as recently as May 7. Meanwhile, China has loaned the country around $60 billion and buys more Venezuelan oil than the rest of the world combined. An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council is scheduled for today, January 5, where China and Russia are expected to voice strong protests. This session was requested by Colombia, with the support of both Russia and China. The Security Council has already met twice—in October and December—due to the escalating tensions between the US and Venezuela.

Venezuela as a colony

Venezuela had essentially become an economic colony of China, a process that took years to fully materialize. From the Chinese perspective, it is easy to understand why Beijing is so outraged. China has strongly condemned the US action, stating it is "deeply shocked" by the US military attacks and the arrest of Nicolas Maduro. China emphasizes that this move "clearly violates international law and Venezuela's sovereignty, threatening peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean." It demands the immediate release of Maduro and his wife and calls on the US to "stop the subversion of the Venezuelan government and resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation."

Will China respond?

Naturally, that is not going to happen. Now that Trump has Maduro in his custody, he will never let him go. The incident puts China in an particularly difficult position, as its delegation had met with Maduro just hours before his arrest. Nicolas Maduro had met with Qiu Xiaoqi, the Chinese government's special envoy for Latin American affairs, at the Miraflores Palace. Maduro stated that the meeting "confirmed the commitment to a strategic relationship that is being strengthened in various sectors to build a multipolar world of development and peace."

Russia's position

From Russia's side, the situation is also provoking fury. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the American action, labeling it an "armed attack against Venezuela" and demanding the immediate release of the "legally elected president and his wife." Sergei Lavrov spoke by phone with Vice President Delcy Rodriguez Gomez, expressing "solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the face of the armed attack." This development casts doubt on Russia's trust in any American promises regarding Ukraine, while the chances for long-term peace with Russia now seem negligible. Societe Generale highlights that Russian acceptance of any "peace plan" is considered unlikely, and any rejection will lead to an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, increasing geopolitical risk for the world.

American reactions

Regarding Venezuela, there is a possibility that the Senate may intervene next week by voting on a resolution to limit President Trump's military actions. The vote concerns a "war powers resolution" intended to prevent the continuation of military operations against Venezuela. The resolution has bipartisan support and cannot be blocked by Senate Majority Leader John Thune. The initiative is supported by Chuck Schumer, Tim Kaine, Rand Paul, and Adam Schiff. Regardless of the outcome, the US has already crossed a red line with irreversible consequences. The situation appears to be leading toward a potential war with Russia and China, a fact that should deeply concern the global community.
