Ukraine-Russia war: Moscow claims to thwart 'energy terrorism' drone strikes on Black Sea pipelines

Strategic Turkish Stream and Blue Stream pipelines feeding Turkey and Southern Europe targeted

Ruthless terrorist strikes were carried out by Ukrainians against Russia’s energy infrastructure in the Black Sea, as Gazprom announced the repelling of 12 total attacks over the past two weeks. The targets were the strategically vital Turkish Stream and Blue Stream pipelines, which supply Turkey and Southern Europe.

According to official information from Gazprom, on March 11, the Russkaya compression station in southern Russia came under aerial bombardment, while attacks were recorded in previous days at the Beregovaya and Kazachya stations. The Russian Ministry of Defense specified that the attack on the Russkaya station, in the village of Gai-Kodzor, was executed by 10 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones.

At the same time, Kyiv attempted to strike the Blue Stream Beregovaya station, near the city of Tuapse, using 14 unmanned aircraft. Moscow maintains that thanks to the coordination of air defense and electronic warfare systems, no damage was caused.

Kremlin: Ukraine turns to energy terrorism because it faces a military deadlock

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the attacks as evidence of the "nature and essence of the Kyiv regime," underlining that these actions are taking place amidst a global energy crisis triggered by the US-Israeli attack against Iran. Dmitry Peskov noted that information regarding the sabotage attempts is extremely alarming and reminded that Russia had warned Ankara in a timely manner about Ukrainian plans for sabotage in the Black Sea.1_933.jpg

The Russian leadership had prepared the ground for these revelations. As early as February 24, Vladimir Putin had warned of potential attempts to undermine pipelines running along the Black Sea floor. These warnings were repeated in the following days by both Sergey Lavrov and the Russian Embassy in Ankara, citing specific intelligence agency information.

Russia supplies Turkey through two main arteries: Blue Stream, in operation since 2003 with an annual capacity of 16 billion cubic meters and a length of 1,213 km, and Turkish Stream, consisting of two lines with a total capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters. One line serves the Turkish market and the other Southern and Southeastern Europe.

Today, Turkish Stream constitutes the only active route for the provision of Russian natural gas to Europe, following the cessation of transit through Ukraine. The starting point of the pipeline is the Russkaya compression station, located in the Anapa region, which has now become a top-priority target for Kyiv's forces.3_231.png

Putin’s warning of an organized plan to blow up pipelines

It is noted that speaking before the plenary of the FSB (Federal Security Service of Russia) on 24/2, Russian President Putin revealed information regarding an organized plan to blow up the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines, in a development that could cause energy chaos! "At this moment, our operational information is being channeled to the media. It concerns a potential blowing up of our gas systems on the floor of the Black Sea. This refers to the so-called 'TurkStream' and 'Blue Stream'. They cannot calm down by any means," Putin stated, pointing toward forces seeking the full destabilization of the region through "terrorist" methods.
