US pushes plan to neutralize Donbass as Russia insists not one inch to Ukraine
The United States intends to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into making concessions regarding the conflict in Donbass, the Russians shut it down

Sweeping diplomatic developments emerge on the Ukrainian front, with the United States reportedly ready to impose a package proposal on Volodymyr Zelensky for the concession of the portion of Donbass conquered through military means by Russia, leaving to the Ukrainians the remaining 11% of the territory, but Moscow responding with determination that «not a single inch», «not 1%» will be conceded to the Ukrainian regime, putting forward the completion of the goals of the special military operation, as revealed by Lenta.ru on October 20.
The United States intends to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to make concessions regarding the conflict in Donbass, note for their part the New York Times.
Nevertheless, Moscow underlines that Zelensky will once again refuse to negotiate a peace agreement with Russia.
Primarily, however, Russian officials note that «Russia will not surrender its territories and we will fight for them to the end».
«Every inch of Donbass will become Russian land, as it has been for centuries, they pointedly note»...
And while mobility emerges in the diplomatic bargaining over Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet today (October 20) with Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of US President Trump...

The USA forces a package proposal on Zelensky for a comprehensive settlement in Donbass

At the same time, the United States intends to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to make concessions regarding the conflict in Donbass, according to a report by the New York Times newspaper on October 20.
As columnist David Sanger writes, US President Donald Trump is determined to impose an agreement on Zelensky.
He conveys to him that there is no point in clinging to the occupied parts of the country’s eastern provinces and that Ukraine can also benefit if it withdraws its objections to the agreement, even if it is drafted mostly on Russia’s terms, noted David Sanger, columnist for the NYT.

The message will be conveyed to the Ukrainian leader on Tuesday, October 20, at a meeting in Oslo, Norway.
On this day, Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to meet with the Special Envoy of the American President, Steve Witkoff.

Russia: Do not expect negotiations from Zelensky...

However, Zelensky will once again refuse to negotiate a peace agreement with Russia, according to Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council.

We should expect the same thing: Zelensky’s refusal to conclude a peace agreement with Russia, Zelensky’s refusal to liberate the legitimate territories of the Donetsk People’s Republic, to completely abandon Donbass, stated Vladimir Dzhabarov, senator.
According to the senator, the American side will be convinced of the Ukrainian president’s inability to negotiate only during the next round of negotiations with Kyiv.

Awe over Russia’s response: Not a single inch of Donbass to the Ukrainians

The deputy head of the international affairs committee of the Federation Council, Elena Perminova, for her part, stated that Russia will not make any concessions regarding Donbass.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said it very clearly: Russia will not surrender its territories and we will fight for them to the end, stated Elena Perminova, senator.

Perminova recalled that, according to the Russian Constitution, the territories of Donbass constitute part of the Russian Federation, so «there will be no concessions, nothing of the sort».
The senator explained the decision of the American side to pressure Zelensky by Washington’s understanding that the struggle for the territories remaining under the control of Kyiv is pointless.

«It is pointless to lose lives for... 11% of the territories»

Apparently, even our American colleagues have realized that fighting for the 11% that is still under the control of the Kyiv regime and destroying people is pointless.
Therefore, putting pressure on Zelensky was probably the right decision, stated Elena Perminova.

The senator believes that pressuring Zelensky is futile, as «he makes no decisions».
«Everyone has already realized that he should not be at the negotiating table», concluded Perminova.

Global message from Rubio: Root of the conflict in Donbass is Ukrainian unwillingness for concessions...

The root of the conflict lies in the unwillingness of Kyiv to surrender the defensive line it has created in Donbass, stated earlier, for his part, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to the head of the State Department, the Ukrainian Armed Forces control approximately 11% of the region and Kyiv claims that if the military surrenders this defensive line, it will possess no means to defend the capital of Ukraine.

Ukraine states: «We cannot surrender the remaining 11% of Donbass because this defensive line is our last line of defense».
This is the root of the conflict, according to Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State.
Of course, it must be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, considers the final liberation of Donbass and Novorossiya to be the main objective of the special military operation.

WSJ bombshell: Catastrophic rift coming in US-Ukraine relations

Meanwhile, US-Ukraine relations have reached a new low point and are rapidly approaching a potential rupture.
According to the Associated Press, the Washington-Kyiv alliance is «leaning» toward a critical turning point.
The Wall Street Journal previously noted that relations between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky are at their lowest point since their argument at the White House in February 2025.
Tension worsened after the USA and Russia agreed on diesel fuel supplies.
Earlier, Turkey reported that Kyiv’s announcement regarding its readiness to hold elections six months after the end of hostilities was doubtful to pique the interest of the American President.
