China strikes back over Greenland with a harsh response to NATO and the US: "Chinese threat" is a fictional construct

China strikes back over Greenland with a harsh response to NATO and the US:

China, although calling itself a "near-Arctic state," seeks to keep the routes for the "Polar Silk Road" open, despite NATO's efforts to raise a "wall" of protection around Greenland.

In a frontal collision with the West, Beijing launched a fierce attack on Thursday, January 22, against NATO and the US, characterizing allegations of a "Chinese threat" in the Greenland region as completely baseless. This stance comes as a direct response to statements from the Alliance, which argued that negotiations with Washington aim to prevent Russia and China from ever "setting foot" on the strategically significant island.

"You are fabricating enemies out of nothing"

The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Xiaokun, during a press briefing, accused the West of political expediency and the fabrication of false narratives. "China opposes the practice of fabricating something out of nothing and using China as an excuse for personal gain," Guo Xiaokun specifically stated.

The strategic "prime cut" of the Arctic

The tension surrounding Greenland is not accidental, as the island is the epicenter of a new "Cold War" in the Arctic. Greenland possesses some of the largest rare earth deposits in the world, which are critical for high technology and the green transition—a sector where China dominates globally. Its geographical position allows for the control of navigation routes in the Arctic Ocean, which are becoming increasingly accessible due to climate change. The revival of Donald Trump's interest in purchasing or annexing the island has alarmed China, which sees its efforts for economic penetration in the region (through investments in mines and infrastructure) being targeted by Washington.

The Russian parameter

Beijing appears to be coordinating its rhetoric with Moscow, as both powers accuse NATO of the "militarization of the Arctic". China, although calling itself a "near-Arctic state," seeks to keep the routes for the "Polar Silk Road" open, despite NATO's efforts to raise a "wall" of protection around Greenland.
