The night of August 20 unfolded into an endless nightmare, with military operations between Russia and Ukraine reaching an unprecedented escalation.
The Russian armed forces launched a massive, coordinated attack using high-precision weapons from land, air, and sea, as well as long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, targeting the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and the broader region, which were engulfed in extensive fires, with Ukrainian outlet «Insider» notably reporting that «in Boryspil the sky is not visible» due to dense black smoke.
Massive air raid by Moscow with terrifying firepower
It was among the strongest, most destructive, and most chaotic Russian strikes on Kyiv, as revealed by Ukrainian Channel 24.
According to reports, Russia launched at least 12 hypersonic Zircon missiles, 8 ballistic Iskander-M missiles, several Kh-23 missiles, as well as approximately 8 Kalibr missiles, leveling pivotal weapon production industrial units, transportation centers, and strategic warehouses.

Destruction of Flamingo missile production plants, M-900 bomb and «Baba Yaga» storage - Strategic strike on the historic Antonov aviation industry
Among the primary targets critically struck in the Kyiv region were the facilities of the industrial enterprise Fire Point, which manufactured components for strike drones while simultaneously assembling and storing propulsion systems for Flamingo cruise missiles.
At the same time, Russian forces dismantled the assembly facilities of the Antonov aviation industry, founded in 1920 and officially included on Ukraine's list of strategic assets since December 23, 2004, as confirmed by government documents, where long-range autonomous combat drones of the An-196 "Lyutyi" type were manufactured, an infrastructure of major strategic importance for Ukraine's defense and economy.
In the Ukrainian capital, a critical ammunition depot was also struck, where M-900 thermobaric aerial bombs, anti-tank mines, and specialized munitions for heavy Baba Yaga drones were stored.
Total destruction of logistics centers
The destruction extended to the commercial-storage complex of Ukrspecsystems, which was used for the production of strike unmanned aerial vehicle components. Concurrently, in the Kyiv region, the Zamler Group logistics center was struck, where dual-use goods essential for the manufacturing of drones, electronic warfare systems, and robotic complexes were stored and distributed.
8,000 cubic meters of fuel blown up and strikes on ports
In the Kyiv region, the logistics center in Martusivka for dual-use products was hit, while in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region, the Russians dismantled a giant fuel and lubricant depot, destroying up to 8,000 cubic meters of fuel intended for the Ukrainian armed forces, leaving the sky invisible behind thick black smoke.
The barrage of attacks also extended to the south, as from the evening of August 19 military material warehouses were completely destroyed in the critical ports of Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi (Yuzhny).

Darkness, smoke, and damage in the Ukrainian capital
In Kyiv, air raid sirens sounded repeatedly.
The mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed serious destruction, damage, and fires in non-residential buildings and storage facilities in the Darnytskyi (where the fire covered 1,000 sq.m.) and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
Fires were also recorded in Solomianskyi, where the Machine-Building Plant of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, electrical equipment company Elekon, and light aircraft manufacturer Aeros are based.
Infrastructure destruction and metro sheltering
The strike caused severe damage to railway and energy infrastructure. «Ukrzaliznytsia» modified train schedules in the Kyiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, while energy company DTEK announced that 90,000 customers in Kyiv were left without power.
The attack had been preceded by a warning from US intelligence services regarding an imminent bombardment within 48 hours, prompting many residents to spend the night in metro stations.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed the damage, while the sky over Boryspil was covered in dense black smoke.
At the same time, the Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts were partially plunged into darkness due to power outages.
Giant Ukrainian response with nearly one thousand drones
Ukraine's response to the sweeping Russian strike was immediate and unprecedented in volume.
Kyiv launched one of the fiercest drone attacks since the beginning of the war, sending more than 700 drones deep into Russian territory and placing the whole of Russia on full alert.
A large-scale drone air raid was repelled in the city of Nizhnekamsk, located at a distance of approximately 1,200 kilometers from the border of Ukraine.

All-night air defense battle across dozens of Russian regions
The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that air defense forces fought a hard battle, neutralizing a total of 726 Ukrainian drones across a wide geographic range.
Military forces intercepted enemy targets in the regions of Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Tambov, Tula, and Ulyanovsk, as well as in the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, Crimea, Tatarstan, and over the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
250 drones moved menacingly toward Moscow
The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that at least 250 drones were directed toward the capital region.
The vast majority of the hostile vehicles were intercepted and destroyed on distant defense lines before approaching the urban core.

Raid 1,200 kilometers from the border
Demonstrating the immense range of the Ukrainian attack was the large-scale raid on the city of Nizhnekamsk in the Tatarstan region, located approximately 1,200 kilometers from the border.
The city's mayor, Radmir Belyaev, confirmed that air defense shot down the enemy targets, thanking authorities for the coordination.
Civilian injury and blackout in Ulyanovsk
The deadly Ukrainian raid also left casualties behind.
In the Ulyanovsk region, a resident of the Novospassky district was seriously injured by the strikes and transferred to the hospital, while widespread power outages were caused in the same municipality.
Once again, Russia shows its true colors. Last night, it terror-bombed Kyiv, killing at least five people and injuring 23.
