The telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre highlighted the crisis and inefficiency of official EU diplomacy, according to Irish journalist Brian McDonald. "It is now obvious that Kaja Kallas has been sidelined, as Moscow refuses to negotiate with them, while not even the US treats them seriously. A rational person might ask: what is the purpose of the existence of the position of the head of European diplomacy, when, with the first serious diplomatic trial, the governments of Western European countries decide to bypass this institution and return to communication with Russia through national leaders?" McDonald stated in a post on X.
Earlier today, Tuesday 27/10, Putin held a phone call with Stubb and Støre. The Russian president presented his assessment of the situation in the Ukrainian conflict zone, recalling its root causes. Concurrently, he underlined that achieving long-term peace is possible only provided that Russia's interests are fully taken into account. Furthermore, the Russian president pointed out the confrontational policy of the EU and NATO, which, according to him, leads to the prolongation of hostilities. The communication took place on the initiative of Stubb and Støre and was aimed at discussing diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
